The HOPSTORY: is multiple perspectives distributed cinematic story set in the 1930's in the old Guinness Hopstore building of Dublin, at the time hosting the MIT MediaLabEurope (MLE) research centre. Hopstory recounts a day in the life of four fictional characters that spend their day in the brewery hopstore when it was still used as such. The story fragments are distributed in space according to the spatial point of view of the characters and in time according to the progress of the action. The audience collects scenes by walking through the building near cat sculptures distributed through the building floors. By collecting data at different locations and different times, each audience member edits her own version of the story according to their passage through the space. When ready, the audience members can playback their sequence of collected scenes at designated playback area. Hopstory pushes the boundaries of digital storytelling outside of the computer screen and into the real space, bonding the stories to the architectural structure of the building where the facts are taking place, and distributing the story in time and space. The project is a collaborative effort between the Storynetworks group at MLE and Trinity College Dublin NTRG and DSG research groups. Hopstory I was showcased at the "Extreme Interfaces" event hold at MediaLabEurope in january 2001 and Hopstory II was shocesed in numerous Open Houses events at MLE during the winter -summer 2004. Both projects attracted interest and engagement from corporate sponsors as well as media and communication experts.
